Meant for each other

I've always been interested in tattoos and other forms of body art, probably because my parents would never allow me to express myself that way. I think it's amazing how people can express themselves in such a unique form. Probably one of the most unique people I have come across in different research is Julia Gnuse.

When I first came across her and this picture I thought wow that must have hurt and although body tattoos can be a from or art and a way to express yourself, why would anyone want their whole entire body to be covered, especially your face. After doing more research on her I found out that she was born with a disease called prophyria which is a condition where sunlight causes blisters on the skin and in turn causes a great deal of scarring. To cover up her scars she started getting tattoos and ended up becoming known as the "Illustrated lady" and holds the world record for being the woman with the most tattoos.

It's crazy to think that one would hide their condition by covering it up with tattoos, but it is also very creative and she will always have a story to tell.

While searching for information about body art, I also came across The Lizardman and Katzen, two people who have covered their bodies in tattoos. In my eyes, they were meant for each other.

Over this summer for my 19th birthday I got my first tattoo, a sun on my right foot. I liked the blog you did about the lady who covered her body. That is so great how she turned something negative into something positive, you know. Did you ever get a tattoo?

Nice to see the links to the other blogs, thanks! And your use of visual aids really helps your interesting discussion. (Same reason I usually end up talking about painting or movies when discussing creative writing.) The "body thing" in art is often troubling for some people. But I think this trouble arises because, AGAIN!, we are thinking about the artist as person, not the piece of art (which is often conceptual in these instances). Thanks ~R

You really stirred up some talk with this selection of art. I have a couple of tattoos and they hurt alot so i mean i look at the body art on the woman at the top of your page and i love it because its so beautiful but i think about all the pain she must have felt. I came to your page a few times just to see the body art again and its a very gutsie and artistic move.

I must say, this is really some exquisite piece of art. I love the photographs, they bring a lot to imagination. It also reminded me of my first tattoo that I just got this past summer. But more or less, I enjoyed the art and thought it was really nice!!
